About the Maine Lottery
Voters established the Maine Lottery in 1974 via a statewide referendum. In 1985, the Tri-State Lottery was approved, with Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire agreeing to share games. In 1990, Maine Lottery added Lotto America to its portfolio. Tickets for Powerball went on sale in 2004, and the state added Mega Millions in 2010.
Since its creation, the Maine Lottery has contributed revenue from the sale of lottery tickets to the state's general fund. Today, lottery funds benefit a range of programs, including local schools, health services, and wildlife protection.
